Assessments for Speech & Language Skills

Kid Spot ensures that each child receives the personalized care they need to become a confident communicator. To start this journey, we offer two assessment options:
A. Initial Consultation: This assessment is grounded in informal observations and measures blended with our professional expertise. We use speech-language facilitation strategies to glean insights into your child’s communicative abilities. Following our assessment, we provide tailored recommendations to support your child’s language development journey.
B. Comprehensive Evaluation: Our thorough evaluation combines formal, standardized testing with informal evaluation methods for a more in-depth analysis. This evaluation covers all speech and language development areas, including adaptive behavior, pragmatic skills, play skills, expressive and receptive language, and articulation skills. After the evaluation, a comprehensive report is generated, which details your child’s current functioning levels, provides a diagnosis if relevant, outlines recommendations and speech-language facilitation strategies, and drafts a treatment plan with specific therapy goals.
These tailored options ensure we meet your child’s unique needs, guiding them toward effective communication and bright futures.

Therapy of Speech & Language Skills
At Kid Spot, we offer therapy based on proven methods to help each child reach their full potential. We tailor our therapy sessions to fit each child’s abilities, goals, and age. We believe children learn best when having fun, so our therapy sessions are always filled with laughter and smiles. The length and frequency of our sessions are decided together with parents to ensure that our clients are making progress. Parents are welcome to join therapy sessions, whether it’s in person or through teletherapy.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Our experienced therapists at Kid Spot provide thorough assessments and advanced therapy for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). Our assessments involve a Phonetic & Phonemic Inventory, a Non-Verbal Oral Apraxia Exam, an Oral structural functional Exam, an Articulation & Phonology Exam, and a Formal Assessment using Dynamic Evaluation of Motor Speech Skills (DEMSS).
We incorporate Principles of Motor Learning, Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT Technique), and DTTC Therapy (Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing). With a dynamic assessment and advanced training, we can personalize treatment plans to help each child improve their motor speech skills.

Consultations/Parent Coaching
Kid Spot offers speech and language therapy services for children. We provide in-person consultations at our office in Livingston, NJ, in-home sessions, and virtual consultations for those in New Jersey & New York. We also offer parent coaching to support families. We aim to help children become confident communicators, and we’re ready to start this journey with you.

Professional
Workshops

Beyond our core services at Kid Spot, we are thrilled to expand our offerings by including Professional Workshops. These workshops are meticulously designed to cover essential topics, such as Typical Speech-Language Development, selecting the best toys to encourage growth, understanding Developmental Disorders, and strategies for Managing Challenging Behaviors tied to Communication Deficits.
Our workshops are aimed at parents, educators, and healthcare professionals, providing valuable insights and practical tools to support the children in their care. These sessions are an extension of our commitment to fostering confident communicators and supporting families through comprehensive speech and language therapy approaches.
Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)

Our AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) therapy is designed to meet the needs of our non-verbal communicators. First, an evaluation will determine whether a low-tech or high-tech will best meet your child’s communicative needs and current level of functioning. We involve family members in therapy and guide them to support the child’s communication development. We aim to help children communicate independently, interact socially, and express themselves throughout life.
